Your Life as Story
The Transformational Path of Memoir
with Mary Angelon Young & Regina Sara Ryan
May 28-30, 2021
“Before the last candle dies, I’ll tell my tale….” —Edward Carey
You have an inner well-spring of stories to tell… about being lost and then found; about a moment of insight or clarity or a night of dark despair; about finding a sense of purpose through times when you were challenged, discouraged, or disillusioned, when you were confused, grieving or longing for love; about a beloved teacher, mentor, or friend; about breakthroughs, personal renewal, or a moment of grace when you were touched by the Ineffable. Follow the pathways of your life through the contemplative practice of writing memoir to discover the meaningful patterns behind people, places, and events.
This workshop is designed to help you digest and metabolize your experience and retrieve those essential stories, however buried or hidden, that constellate the patterns and purposes of your unique journey through life. In this introduction to memoir writing, we will explore:
Options and styles of memoir—you choose!
Storycraft—the key elements of spinning a great tale.
Truth-telling and dealing with the dark side.
Paths taken and paths not taken.
Making it happen—practical work.
We welcome everyone who has ever considered writing a memoir:
beginners with no formal training or previous writing experience
those currently in process with writing their story for personal development
those aiming for a readership through publication.
