Pathways of Return: Practices of Inner Yoga
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your wild and precious life?” — Mary Oliver
Within each one of us is a place of sanity and wisdom that seeks to guide life’s journey with clarity and compassion. Like many spiritual traditions, C.G. Jung called this mystery “the Self”—an innate, already present existence that remains hidden from ordinary view until we learn to speak its language and live into its purpose.
This course works from the inside out. The pathways of return to the wise innocence of our true nature are many, as are the gateways that both initiate and integrate our experience along the way. In this nine-week course, we’ll begin an exploration of the inner world through symbol, story, and song as portals to a richer relationship with the events and felt-experiences of ordinary life as well as dreams, intuition, and the imagination of the heart.
The pathways of return to the Self inevitably lead us away from the familiar ruts of social convention, the drive to be perfect, cultural expectations or images, and religious dogmas. The Self asks each of us to awaken and integrate our individual experience; to be true to our own hearts; to be present with our deepest feelings. In the process, we build the resilience and courage needed to examine those woundings and beliefs that drive our lives, and as we forge the clarity and insight that aligns us with who we most truly are, the heart softens and opens to embrace what is real.
Within the warm and generous container of a supportive community, this course invites you into a full, creative engagement as we move along the pathways of return to the foundations of Self:
symbol & story
experiential exercises
writing, song & dream as creative gateways
byways of inner yoga
deep sharing
Each week will offer a chance to listen and learn from yourself and one another. Auxiliary resources for ongoing exploration and further study will be provided. This is not an asana course.
